A first for dontdopeas today!
A series-shot. No, I’m not trying to coin another phrase, basically it’s just my crappy attempt at an Eadweard Muybridge-esque shot.

The rest after the jump (didn’t want to bog the page down with out of focus shots) Continue reading »

I’ve been wanting to get an HDR of Meg’s garage for some time but my 18-55mm couldn’t cut it at the wide end.
So when I got to borrow my friend Ed’s sigma 10-20mm to take some shots of my girlfriend’s newly decorate bedroom I took the chance to nip outside and get a few snaps.
I’m quite pleased with the results, the grimey and unorganised feel of the garage really comes through and I love that about it.

Another angle of the HDR: Houses in Birtle image.
In all honesty, I do prefer the other shot.
The HDR technique didn’t really work out too great in this shot.
The landscape was nice and I didn’t do it justice.

Peel Monument sits right at the top of Holcombe Hill in Ramsbottom.
A dedication to Sir Robert Peel.
Boy it was windy, the sky was layer masked in from a single exposure but the tower remains a HDR, even if it’s not that apparent.
It was a “fun” walk up this hill with all my gear…..

My girlfriend’s stepdad bought some seeds because he is trying to grow some of his own herbs and whatnots.
One tray of seeds sprouted particularly quickly and I liked the little strands of silky web some spiders passing by had left so I got my macro out on it and tried to make it look like a jungle…
sorta.

This shot is similar to the previous one on dontdopeas, although it’s taken from a different angle and isn’t a HDR.
I was using the polarizing filter I had borrowed of Meg’s grandfather which made the sky really pop and the clouds look great (in my opinion) but that’s due to the gorgeous day it was.
I quite liked the texture of this log but unfortunately didn’t have my macro with me to enjoy it even more!

me and meg went for a walk through this place called black leach park.
it was quite a quiet place.
a large lake surrounded by footpaths.
we took a lunch break and sat down to eat a packet of crisps. as we set off i spotted a lone dandelion by the side of the path and asked meg if she would pose for a photo for me.
i had my 50mm 1.8 attached and had to manually focus with my d40x.
it was a little tricky and took quite a lot of photos and in the end, this was the best shot.
it was quite overcast so my aperture was smaller than i wanted, this meant the dandelion seeds that had been blown off weren’t in focus. i didn’t want to up the ISO anymore. i’m still happy with the results though.

DOUBLE EDIT: Thanks to everyone who has viewed, favourited and commented some more, this is now my most interesting photo

Me and Meg had gone out to the movies to watch Wanted. I won’t ruin it but it’s rubbish.
Anyway, that’s neither here nor there.
I had left my 50mm 1.8D in the car and was bringing it in when we got home when I spotted this porch light and thought ‘ooh, pretty’ so I took my camera out and looked through the viewfinder and realised I had left the star-6 filter on.
I decided I kind of liked it so here you go

There’s something rather strange about this log in this lake.
It might have something to do with the fact that there are no trees that close to the waterside nor are there any remnants, like a tree stump, anywhere nearby.
I’m guessing it must have fallen, then rolled into the lake…
Anyway, there’s a little hint of trailing in the clouds due to the HDR and the wind but nothing that needed anything drastic.
Had to rotate the image in post to get the horizon horizontal though, and remove a few specks.
Other than that, the sky was gorgeous and the water, equally impressive.
