    About

    Hey, welcome to dontdopeas!

That was just my little welcome note to all of you who have stumbled across dontdopeas.
dontdopeas is my photoblog site. It's nothing amazing and it won't redefine what a photoblog site should be, but I do try and give it a little personality :)

If you wanna know more about me, then click on the proper About Me tab that should be lingering just up there on the toolbar
If you wanna see my photos, then you'll find they are on the dontdopeas homepage
If you wanna send me a little hello or ask something then by all means click on my contact page
If you just wanna keep clicking to make this neat little toolbar pop up and down then go nuts!

Ginger horsey

emo, horse, orange, eye, focus, fujifilm, finepix, s9500, pony, small, birtle, shadow, fence, gate, barb, mjkov, dontdopeas

I think this may be the first photo taken with my Fujifilm old ‘digicul camera’. Me and Meg were in Birtle having a little walkaround as we used to do before my car got stolen. It’s mainly farm area and some old houses. A very tiny little village but a place I’ve always liked since my friend Rob took me there a long time ago. This little pony/horse came up to the fence near the road so I whacked out my camera and took some snaps.

The thing I like most about this picture is that the horses eye is sharp. Not because it’s specifically the eye that is sharp, just how sharp it is for my old Fuji. Colour’s nice too but I think that was from post.

Overall: wee I like ponies!

drip..

Dripping, firework, gold, sparkle, bonfire, night, heaton, park, prestwich, november, 5th, 2007, nikon, d40x, mjkov, dontdopeas, black, night, sky, dark

Okay, so handholding a firework shot may not be the best idea but sometimes it can have some nice effects. This for example. Might not look like a firework but I just like the colour and the swooshy feeling of it.

Heaton Park have a huge bonfire every year with a carnival and a firework shot that is usually quite good. Me, being the lazy me I am, didn’t think carry around a tripod all night, in the pitch black of Prestwich was a good idea so just the camera came along. There was about 200 shots taken of which about 20 were good and by good I mean passable.

In the bathroom drawer

Bathroom, drawer, hdr, high, dynamic, range, multiple, exposure, nikon, d40x, mjkov, dontdopeas, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, brush, bath, floss, plastic, containers

A HDR now in the brand new “hdr: at home” category! :)

This is of the bathroom drawer in my old house. It’s quite dark and a bit noisy. Although the colours are kinda fun. That Simpsons toothpaste is awful though. Overall I wish I could shoot this again.

Ed’s goggles

Ed, and, his, goggles, hand, eye, blue, background, white, nikon, d40x,

This is a shot of Ed wearing..”goggles” from a really old photoshoot at University.
We used it as a practice setting up a studio with lights and backdrops etc and posed for each other.

A good day was had by all (and we got a few decent snaps of each other too)

Mickey & Goofy

mickey, mouse, and, goofy, dog, soft, material, felt, plastic, puppet, dolls, bears, teddy, speaking, wicker, chair, curtain, beige, orange, pink, red, black, ears, tongue, cotton, hand, gloves, sitting, nikon, d40x, mjkov, dontdopeas, hdr, high dynamic, range, multiple, exposure

This shot is the first in my HDR at Home set. Only kidding, I don’t have a set called HDR at Home although I should do. I was influenced by this guy who was showcased in a photography magazine I was reading who took HDR’s of rooms and items around his house that weren’t exactly ground-breaking, it just was a HDR in a not so grand way that people are used to seeing them, well me, I’m not used to seeing them for mundane everyday things. So I took my camera and started to HDR around the House.
Keep and eye out for a few others coming up soon.

p.s. if you visit the flickr page for this photo there’s a little story about Mickey & Goofy (not all of it true, but fun anyway)

rusty, door, hinge, blue, wooden, gate, door, slats, panel, rust, orange, fade, rot, dark, metal, hdr, high, dynamic, range, multiple, exposure, red, black, brick, under, castlefield, metrolink, bridge, metro, mjkov, dontdopeas, nikon, d40x

This HDR of a random little blue door in Castlefield is under the metrolink bridge that runs over the waterways. Apart from the obvious generation and tone mapping of the HDR, a little sharpening, there was no other post processing done. I’m emphasizing this because the colours of the rusty hinge and the red of the brick were all natural. It was very vivid and a little weird.

Bridge, through, Castlefield, manchester, metrolink, metro, public, transport, nikon, d40x, mjkov, dontdopeas, stone, cross, detail, metal, rail, railings, sky, clouds, moss, rust, orange, green, hdr, high, dynamic, range, multiple, exposure, studs, bolts

It was a fairly nippy noodle day and me and Meg were having a little walk through Castlefield. This was the day we went to the Bodyworlds exhibition. (crazy stuff) Continue reading »

Under the tarpaulin

under, the, tarpaulin, material, castlefield, hdr, high, dynamic, range, image, multiple, exposure, mancheser, steel, structure, black, metal, stain, dirt, sky, blue, clouds, nikon, d40x, mjkov, dontdopeas

Under the tarpaulin in Castlefield. This little tent like structure forms an outdoor performance area.
It’s years since I’ve been here and all the dirt and grime from years of exposure to the elements started to show on the roof. So I whipped my camera out and got a HDR, which I feel really brought out the texture of the tarpaulin.

Clouds are quite tough to get right with a HDR (unless you do a pseudo-hdr, which isn’t really a HDR but that arguments been done to death) because they move more than you would actually think, til you take notice.

Just a quick note

The about me page is up and running, sorry to have kept you so long before mentioning it. It’s nothing special but I always think it adds a little humanity to a website :)

On a gloomier note, it doesn’t look like my Sigma 150mm ƒ/2.8 HSM Macro lens will be turning up any time soon. I’ve had to file a claim via PayPal because of a certain eBay shop which I won’t publicly bastardise….but I want to.

Under the wheel

Under the wheel, manchester, big, wheel, ferris, metal, structure, white, triangle, manchester, mjkov, nikon, d40x, dontdopeas, night, shot, long, exposure, night photography, nuts, bolts, dark

Under the MEN ferris wheel in Manchester. Me and Ed had to keep waiting for it to stop before we could get a shot off because it would need a couple seconds exposure and the darn thing didn’t stop for very long so it took us a few attempts.
